My Smile Dentist — Implant-Supported Dentures

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures

Rather than just resting on gums, these dentures attach securely to dental implants anchored in your jaw. You get much greater stability, better chewing & speaking, and a fit that feels more natural.

Who's a Good Candidate

  • People missing many or all teeth and looking for a more reliable alternative to conventional dentures.

  • Those who have enough jawbone density; if bone is lost, “bone grafting” can help prepare the site.

  • Patients wanting improved function — eating, speaking, smiling with confidence.

What the Process Looks Like

  • Assessment & Imaging — We check your mouth, gums, bone, and take scans/X-rays to plan placement.

  • Implant Placement — Titanium posts are surgically placed in the jaw; these act like tooth roots. Healing (osseointegration) follows.

  • Fitting Dentures — Once implants are stable, custom dentures are made to attach to them. There are removable or fixed types.

  • Maintenance & Follow-Ups — Keeping them clean, checking fit, and occasional adjustments. Proper care is key for long life of both implants & denture.

Types & Materials of Grafts

TypeWhat It Means / Material
AutograftBone taken from your own body (jaw, hip etc.) – tends to integrate well.
AllograftBone from another human donor (processed) – avoids second-surgery sites.
XenograftBone derived from animal sources (e.g. bovine), processed for safety.
AlloplastSynthetic graft material (e.g. bone substitutes) – useful when avoiding human or animal tissue.
Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) / Membrane-UsageUse of barrier membranes over graft to help bone grow in correct shape & block soft tissue infiltration

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these dentures removable or fixed?

Yes – there are two kinds. Some implant-supported dentures snap on and off; others are fixed in place permanently, removable only by the dentist.

Usually between 3-6 months for implants to integrate with bone. If bone grafting is needed, it may take longer.

The implants often last many years (often decades) if maintained properly. The denture prosthesis (teeth + base) may need replacement or periodic adjustment.

It costs more up front than conventional dentures, but many patients find that the improved function, stability, comfort, and fewer replacements make it a better investment long term.
