My Smile Dentist — Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots (usually made of titanium or similar materials), placed into your jawbone to support crowns, bridges, or even denture‐types of prostheses. They act like natural teeth in look, feel, and function, giving strong, stable replacements for missing teeth.

Who Can Benefit

You might consider implants if:

  • You’ve lost one or more teeth due to decay, injury, or gum disease.

  • Dentures or bridges aren’t comfortable, keep slipping or affecting speech/eating.

  • You want to preserve jawbone health (implants help prevent bone loss).

How the Process Works

  • Consultation & Planning
We examine your mouth (teeth, gums, jawbone), take X-rays / CBCT scans, and plan the implant position. If bone is insufficient, bone grafting may be needed.

  • Implant Placement
The implant post is surgically inserted into the jawbone. You’ll be under anesthesia/local numbing so you won’t feel pain during surgery.

  • Healing / Osseointegration
Over weeks to months, the bone fuses to the implant (called osseointegration). This gives the implant stability to bear the load.

  • Abutment & Final Restoration
Once healed, an abutment is attached over the implant, followed by the crown/bridge/denture that you’ll see and use. Adjustments are made so fit, bite, appearance are good.

  • Follow-up & Aftercare
Regular check-ups, good oral hygiene, avoiding smoking and hard biting habits help ensure long-term success.
